About Shanice
Shanice G.K. Teape is a licensed paralegal, notary public, and a soon-to-be Juris Doctor graduate from Osgoode Hall Law School. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Criminology, as well as a postgraduate diploma in Paralegal Studies. With nearly a decade of experience in both the private and public sectors, legal tech, and in-house legal teams, Shanice brings a broad and intersectional perspective to her work in corporate law, human rights, and social justice.
Her legal journey is rooted in a deep commitment to equity and systemic change. From developing anti-racism and equity strategies within corporate and regulatory spaces, to supporting clients at the Human Rights Legal Support Centre, Shanice has built a career focused on addressing structural inequities in the legal system. Her ability to move between corporate and community-based legal work reflects her dedication to justice-driven advocacy.
As a mixed-race woman, intersectionality is not just a framework for Shanice, it’s a lived experience that shapes her perspective and her purpose. Over the years, she has remained committed to giving back, volunteering with organizations such as the YMCA of Greater Toronto and the Black Law Students’ Association of Canada (BLSA Canada). Having sat on BLSA Canada's National Executive Board for the last two years, she has led mentorship and pre-law programming, raised $20,000 in scholarships for Black law students across Canada and most recently, organized a 650-person national conference in Calgary, Alberta. Given her passion for creativity and thinking outside the box, Shanice was recently awarded the “Lenczner Slaght Next Big Innovator Award” on behalf of her local BLSA Osgoode chapter.
Shanice recently completed an international exchange in Amsterdam, where she focused on international law and transnational human rights. Her approach to legal work remains deeply intersectional, with the goal of building a more inclusive and responsive legal system for marginalized communities in order to better support those who are continuously left behind.
Outside of her legal pursuits, Shanice loves learning new languages, travelling, boxing, and trying new cuisines.
